Senkele Swayne’s Hartebeest sanctuary

Situated at the middle of Ethiopian great rift Valley, and located Between escarpments, Lie the glittering water jewels of Lakes awsa, Lake shala, Lake Abijatta, Lake Langano and Ziway. and some kilometers west of Awassa. It is 335km south of Addis Ababa and covers an area of 54squer kilometers.The sanctuary was originally established to protect the endemic and endangered antelope species called Swayne’s Hertebeste.The sanctuary is located in between Oromia and SNNPRS and managed by the Ethiopian wildlife conservation Authority. It’s Open quite easily to spot some Wildlife in particular Swayne’s hartebeests.The populations are currently estimated to 500 and 600. And you may have chance to see more such as

reedbuck, Greater kudus, Orbis, spotted Hyenas, Serval and civet cats, warthogs, common Jackals, and Birds of the area including Rufou-crowned Roller, Northern Carmine Bee-eater, Abyssinia Roller, and more
