Lying in the Lowlands East of Addis Ababa and astride the Awash River, is one of the finest reserves in Ethiopia. The wash River, one of the major rivers of the horn of Africa, waters important agricultural lands in the north of Ethiopia and eventually flows into the wilderness of the Dankil Depression. The Dramatic Awash falls, where the River Tumbles into a Gorge, is a site not to be missed, Awash National Park, Surroundeding the Dormant Volcano of Fantale, is a reserve of arid and Semi-arid Woodland and Savannahs, with riverain forest along the Wash River. Home to some species of Wildlife more than 50 species of animals have been identified in the park, including Swayne Heartebeest, Beisa Oryx and African plain animals like Greater and Lesser Kudus, Dik-Dik, Gazelle. Fox, Baboon, Crocodile, Birds of the park, Awash National parks is home to 420 birds species and special attractions is the Beautiful Clear pools of the Filwoha hot Springs The bird species include Secretary birds, Abyssinian ground hornbill, Carmine bee-eater, Abyssinian Roller, and birds of the riverside forest like Coucal, Turaco, and Go away birds.
