Our short itinerary to Southern Ethiopia highlights the region’s rich cultural diversity. Compared to our longer program, this tour leaves out the more active trekking in Bale Mountains National Park, allowing for a more immersive cultural focus. The journey takes you through the Great African Rift Valley to discover communities off the beaten path. By deliberately skipping some of the “must see” tourist stops, this tour provides deeper, more authentic impressions of non-touristic places that showcase the true spirit of Southern Ethiopia.
Accompanied by one of our experienced Bale Trek Ethiopia Tours guides (English, French & German available), you will spend time with the Konso tribe, exploring their villages and learning about their unique way of life. In the lush green highlands of the Dorze people, you will meet friendly villagers known for their dome-shaped houses and rich weaving traditions. Further north, the picturesque villages of the Sidama coffee farmers offer a completely different experience.
Your tour ends at Lake Langano, where you can relax in a warm climate shaded by giant trees. The lakeshore offers the perfect spot for swimming, reflection, and relaxation before heading home. Overnights are spent in carefully selected mid-range to high-range hotels and lodges, each beautifully located to enrich your experience.
Wake up in a traditional Sidama bamboo-woven house, surrounded by birdsong and the distant calls of hyenas. Early risers may join a nature walk with lodge guides to spot black-and-white colobus monkeys in the treetops. After breakfast, enjoy a guided village walk through Sidama settlements, experiencing local culture on lush forest trails and farmland paths. The afternoon is free to relax at your scenic lodge.
